Temasek pours $85m into Indian real-time PCR testing startup


Molbio Diagnostics is an India-based startup in healthtech. It has raised US$85 Million from Temasek.

In 2011, Sriram Natarjan, Chandrasekhar Nair founded Molbio, which makes portable devices that detect various diseases such as TB, HIV, dengue and tuberculosis. According to a statement, it can also perform real time PCR tests for Covid-19 diagnosis.

The Indian government has deployed the device to over 5,000 testing centres in 40 countries. It has also been endorsed and approved by the World Health Organization for use in diagnosing TB.

Molbio intends to use the new funding to expand its product range and to desavelop new products.

Nair, who is also the director and CTO of Molbio, stated that “we see the partnership with Temasek as accelerating our efforts for work on newer technologies to address the critical need gaps worldwide in diagnosis.”
